RAY'S POSITIONS (12 - 23)

Why has there been an insulting failure of the city administration and city council to mobilize Medford’s political clout and citizenry for support to keep the Lawrence Memorial Hospital open? With the advent of the hospital closing, with the exception of a few services scheduled for November 1 st , our Medford citizens have been intentionally sold out by a hospital administration that has put all its energy into promoting themselves for the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital at the expense of City of Medford residents who have supported the Lawrence Memorial Hospital since the 1920’s.

Why are we being charged, as of July, a new bi-monthly tax called a water connectivity tax in addition to our regular water and sewer bills knowing there is about a $6 million surplus in the water and sewer enterprise account?

Why has the city administration continued water and sewer rate increases at the expense of the taxpayers $6,000,000 surplus?

Why has the council and the mayor not held the Cradock Bridge contractor to its commitment on doing double shift work assignments six days a week instead of your lucky if you see a work crew doing at least one shift or a few hours work on any one day? The failure to employ the mayor and council demanding sticking to the terms of the contract commitment has made the Cradock Bridge reconstruction a three year plus project for a 121 foot long bridge. Talk about failure of elected representatives doing their job ... look no further than this project.

Why has the mayor been allowed the constant mis-use of the 911 emergency phone system for non-emergency telephone calls? Emergency is what it means, for an emergency, not for a mayoral propaganda usage.

Why has the Mayor who says that Medford is a welcoming city failed to acknowledge her position supporting Medford being a sanctuary city?

Why has the mayor put all her efforts into prioritizing the West Medford Brooks school and neighborhood location for public safety matters while she has relegated the Roberts, Columbus and Andrew school location to a time in the future? She has done such a disservice to all school children for their public safety school locations. She has equally prioritized the West Medford area for public works attention. The council has failed to act as to why she is allowed to do this.

With the new schools now some 17 years old, why is there a $1,200,000 plus school repair bill needed to get these buildings up to snuff?

Why has the city administration and the city council refused to address zoning mis-use by uncontrolled, out of towners developing throughout Medford at the expense of neighborhood character ( ie. 495 proposed residential units on Locust Street, a 5 story proposed apartment building in the Salem Street Roberts School Area, 160 residential units on Middlesex Avenue, 500 residential units at 300 Mystic Avenue)? Why hasn’t the council done a city wide zoning review for over 30 years?

Why has the council allowed the mayor to give out pay raises of up to $300 per week to two of her office personnel after the budget was passed without any mention at budget time? With city services and school supplies at a premium, and mayoral pay raises and promotions given out during the past two years like candy, this was nothing more than a blatant power play by the mayor hoping that no councilor would catch this one in the heat of the summer.

Why did the city council allow the mayor to have stonewalled the full public access programming that cable tv subscribers have paid $650,000 plus during the past three years, in their cable tv bills and still are. Since this is a city election year will the mayor allow her competition, as well as the city councils, debate opportunities associated with their positions or will she balk on public access for fear of their positions?

Why would any city council have voted for a 20 year contract for an outside vendor to set up a Department of Public Works building roof top solar system without having competing investagations as to a city verus a private 20 year cost? This was done at one council meeting in the summer were many citizens were on vacation. So wrong!

ISSUES 1-23 ARE A FEW OF MY CONCERNS AS TO WHY I AM RUNNING AND NOT WILLING TO ACCEPT THE ACTIONS AS TAKEN BY THE COUNCIL AND THE MAYOR. I AM RECEPTIVE TO HEARING ANY CONCERN YOU MAY HAVE AND WOULD BE AVAILABLE FOR ANYONE THAT WOULD LIKE TO HAVE INTELLIGENT, COMMON SENSE SIT DOWN DISCUSSION ON ANY MATTER YOU CHOOSE.
